WATEURF - a new network

WATEURF - Water And Turf - Efficiency and Use Reduction for the Future was initiated to bring stakeholders and researchers together around the issues of water and turf. The goal is to provide science based information on integrated management practices, to reduce water consumption, protect water quality and document the effects of well managed turfgrass areas on fresh water resources.

Saving water for better turf quality

Saving water and promoting turf quality through better irrigation practises is the goal of the irrigation project. The first objective of this new STERF project is to determine the relationship between green quality and actual water consumption for the turfgrass species / subspecies most commonly found on Scandinavian golf greens. The second objective is to develop deficit irrigation as an environmental friendly and cost effective irrigation strategy for golf greens.

A tough winter for cover trials!

Demonstration trials comparing eight different winter covers in Sweden and Finland are ongoing. The covers differ in permeability and insulation abilities. Trials and results will give us more knowledge on winter protection possibilities for greenkeepers, improve overwintering of greens and extend the golf season in Scandinavia.
